Three people namely ; Alex Ochogo 27(cousin), Pacifica Nyakerario Ochogo 51 (Aunt) and Rael Nyakerario Mayieka 80 (Grandmother) were sentenced to 40 years, 10 years and 5 Years imprisonment respectively. Three people namely ; Alex Ochogo 27(cousin), Pacifica Nyakerario Ochogo 51 (Aunt) and Rael Nyakerario Mayieka 80 (Grandmother) that were found guilty for the gouging of Baby Sagini’s eyes on 13th December 2022,have today been sentenced to 40 years, 10 years and 5 Years imprisonment respectively.
This comes after a busy seven months of hearing of the case which was filed in the Kisii Law Courts of Justice seeking justice for baby Sagini who has otherwise been rendered permanently visually blind.
While rendering her judgement on the Case, the Chief magistrate of the High court of Kisii Her Lordship Christine Ogweno stated that the evidence tabled in court was sufficient to sentence the trio for putting a young baby into a state that will impact his life forever. such an act is considered to be and offence which amounts to felony and deserves a life imprisonment as argued by the counsel representing baby Sagini.
Alex Maina Ochogo’s (cousin) 27-Sentence- First Accused
Mr. Alex Ochogo was sentenced to 40 years in prison for being the person guilty of doing the act of Gouging Baby Sagini’s eyes. He is said to have actively engaged in the act that left baby Sagini Permanently Blind.
“The minor lost his eyes in the hands of his cousin Alex Maina Ochogo the first accused person Herein, I am totally unable to find any mitigating circumstances on his end.”
On the his Sentence, the Chief Magistrate Said
“However for the first accused person, who was the muscle of defense herein, is sentenced to serve 40 years imprisonment,”

Pacifica Nyakerario Ochogo’s(Aunt)51- Sentence Second Accused
On her side, and considering the fact that she’s 51 years old, and the role she played in the matter, the chief Magistrate handed her a 10 years imprisonment for being part of the aiders in the injuring of the minor thus inflicting permanent blindness to him.

while reading her judgement on the second accused, the Chief Magistrate said;
“To the second accused person Pacifica Nyakerario Ochogo, She is sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.”
Rael Nyakerario Mayieka’s Judgement (Grandmother)80- Third Accused
To the third accused person Mrs. Rael Nyakerario Mayieka was sentenced to Five years imprisonment for aiding the crime that rendered a minor permanently blind. Considering the fact that she’s a senior citizen of 80 years, the sentence of 5 years was considered favourable for her for aiding that crime.

The three were given a right to appeal their judgement within 14 days.
